WDA’s talented staff has worked on numerous speciality design projects and is well versed in the unique requirements that are involved in creating efficient, functional and attractive gathering places for use by the public. Representative projects include:
Shrewsbury Fire Station, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts
Kang Associates and the Town of Shrewsbury retained WDA for the design of their new Fire Station headquarters and to evaluate site drainage and other site engineering and layout aspects of the project. The location of the proposed station building, directly behind the existing historic Fire Station building, required immediate input on improvements related to drainage and other appurtenances. Based on our design plan, an Article was quickly prepared for Shrewsbury's annual Town Meeting to purchase a parcel from the abutter. The next phase of work will include detailed design and engineering to fit the new building to the new property boundary. The project permitting will be further complicated given the building is in the heart of the Shrewsbury Historic District, and past municipal projects in the district have proven contentious, so involvement of stakeholders has been, and will continue to be important to the project's success.
Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, No. Grafton, Massachusetts
WDA has completed numerous design projects for Tufts over the last decade. Services have included topographic surveys, civil engineering for building expansion projects, feasibility studies and cost estimates. Recent projects have included the site layout of a new office building and 66 space parking lot, a parking expansion design project for the Small Animal Hospital, and a new MRI addition.
Harvard University – Arnold Arboretum, Boston, Massachusetts
WDA, in collaboration with the architectural firm of Anmahian/Winton of Cambridge MA, was engaged to provide site engineering design and surveying services for Harvard University's expansion of the Dana Greenhouse facilities, located within the Arnold Arboretum. Plans call for an expanded administrative building and new maintenance facilities.
Congregation B’Nai Shalom, Westborough, Massachusetts
WDA was hired by William Sloan Associates to prepare the site design and permitting documents to allow a major expansion of this existing temple on East Main Street. A new sanctuary, classroom space and meeting rooms were proposed, as well as a substantial increase to the site parking. WDA prepared utility and drainage upgrades, landscaping design, and construction documents. Site plans were presented to the town and abutters and approval was quickly received. WDA services finished with construction stake out and construction administration.
Liberty Assembly of God Church, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts
WDA was retained by the Congregation to provide surveying, civil engineering, and permitting services for the construction of a new 13,000 square foot church on Route 20. Our work included all aspects of design from wetlands mapping, topographic and boundary surveys to site layout, attendance at meetings with the town, drainage design, landscape architecture, and has continued through construction layout. This project required the design of an access drive across wetlands and design of an outside “gathering” area.
Sherborn Fire Station, Sherborn, Massachusetts
WDA was hired by the project architect, Naecker-Ammondson Architects to assist with the site design and septic system upgrade for the expansion of the Fire Station. Services included site planning and construction drawing preparation, septic system upgrade design and layout as well as as-built survey of final septic system construction. Meetings with the Fire Station Building Committee and the Town of Sherborn were attended as necessary.
State Street Bank, Grafton & Shrewsbury, Massachusetts
WDA was retained by Carlson Associates to provide the surveying, site planning, civil engineering design, landscape architecture, and environmental permitting necessary to support the development of a two-story, 140,000 square foot data center for State Street Bank in CenTech Park. The building lot was partially located within the Town of Grafton and partially within Shrewsbury. Coordination between both towns was necessary throughout the planning and permitting process. Creative designs to eliminate open detention basins and screen the parking area were accomplished by our landscape architects. The design has been approved by both towns and construction is complete.
Auburn Middle School, Auburn, Massachusetts
WDA was retained by the project architect, Lamoureux – Pagano, to provide site engineering and design services necessary to expand the size of the existing school to include new parking, modified access drives and utilities, as well as grading and landscape changes throughout the site. The plans were completed on a shortened time frame and received full approval by the Town.
